For may the 4th, I thought I’d share some star wars inspired suncatchers/ornaments I made. I love star wars and grew up with the force.
I grew up with Star Wars. The lightsabers, the droids, the whole galaxy far, far away. So when I started thinking about fun stained glass projects to play with, it didn’t take long before I started playing with Star Wars ideas.
These are smaller pieces, about palm sized, designed to hang in a window and catch the light, but also look decent not in a window and on a tree, lit by Christmas tree lights.
Glass selection is honestly half the fun. For some of the designs I wanted bold, saturated colors that would really glow when the sun hit them. For others I went with something more textured to add a little depth. From there it’s the usual stained glass dance. Cut the pieces, grind the edges so they fit nicely, wrap each one in copper foil, and solder it all together.
This was the 1st time I played with uv resin and adding pigments to it to paint the glass. I tried a bunch of different paints and they all peeled, chipped, fell off. UV resin was the 1st thing I found that seemed to be permanent. I have a couple of ideas to try with the resin!
I may make Leia and Boba a bit bigger, some of the smaller pieces weren’t fun to grind/foil.
I’ve got a few more designs floating around in my sketchbook that I may try next. Maybe try some 3D projects.
May the Force be with you. And may your windows always catch a little extra light.
