Blacksmithing
I delved into the art of forging with the aim of crafting my own tools. I see tools like accessing more opportunities and possibilities, giving a wider range of abilities. Given my penchant for collecting tools and tools can be pricey. A good spoon gouge can cost around $75. The chances of my chipping or beating up the blade is high. If I forge one, I can make an OK one, or personalized, for a few dollars and couple hours of my time. If I hurt it, or need a set of different sizes, I can make a kit as I need it.
I worked 2 years part time at Museum Village, a museum in Monroe NY as an interpreter smith. It was great having the opportunity to engage and encourage kids and adults who are still kids at heart to explore forging or any form of creativity. It also gave me a good chance to hone some of my skills and have improved.
