C&M: Stained Glass
Stained glass is a beautiful and intricate art form that requires special care to ensure its longevity and continued vibrancy. Follow these guidelines to properly care for and maintain your stained glass pieces:
- Handcrafted Nature: The Product is meticulously handcrafted, and as such, there may be slight variations in color, texture, and design. These variations are inherent to the artistic nature of the Product and do not compromise its structural integrity.
- Fragility of Stained Glass: Stained glass is inherently fragile. While every effort is made to ensure durability, mishandling, improper installation, or accidents may lead to breakage. Please handle the Product with care.
Installation and Usage Guidelines:
- Professional Installation: We recommend professional installation by a qualified electrician to ensure the pendant lamp is securely and safely affixed.
- Appropriate Bulbs: Use only bulbs that meet the recommended wattage specified in the accompanying documentation. Using bulbs with higher wattage may cause damage to the Product.
- Regular Inspection: Periodically inspect the Product for any signs of damage, wear, or loose components. If any issues are identified, discontinue use and seek professional assistance.
1. Handling:
- Handle stained glass with clean, dry hands to avoid transferring oils or dirt onto the glass surface.
- Wear cotton gloves when handling delicate or intricate stained glass panels.
2. Cleaning:
- Dust the stained glass regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth or a feather duster to prevent the buildup of dirt and debris.
- For more thorough cleaning, use a mild, non-ammonia glass cleaner or a solution of mild dish soap and water.
- Apply the cleaner to a soft cloth or sponge, not directly to the glass, to avoid damage to any soldered joints or leading.
- Gently wipe the glass in a circular motion, taking care not to put excessive pressure on the glass.
3. Avoid Harsh Chemicals:
- Do not use abrasive cleaners, ammonia-based products, or harsh chemicals on stained glass, as they can damage the glass, leading, and patina.
4. Patina Protection:
- Patina is the darkened finish applied to solder lines to enhance the appearance of stained glass. Over time, it may naturally change color or develop a patina.
- Avoid excessive touching of the patina, as oils from the skin can affect its appearance.
- If the patina requires cleaning, use a soft, damp cloth and pat it dry immediately.
5. Oxidation:
- My stained glass has a layer of carnauba wax applied and then polished. Over time this wax may fade or get rubbed off.
- If you notice oxidation, fogging, blooming of the solder. Gently buff off the oxidation and reapply carnauba wax, allow it to dry then gently buff off the excess and bring it back to a shine
6. Storage:
- If you need to store your stained glass temporarily, wrap it in acid-free tissue paper and store it in a cool, dry place.
By following these care and maintenance guidelines, you can ensure that your stained glass remains a stunning and enduring work of art for years to come.
